Microsoft Surface Pro 3 will be Discontinued by December 2016

Microsoft has announced to discontinue the production of Surface Pro 3 laptop-tabs in December 2016. The tech giant announced the news on June 24, Friday, after observing low stock of the devices. Since the arrival of Surface Pro 4 in the series, the company had not carried out any upgrades in the product.

Surface Prof 3 will be no longer manufactured after 2016, Microsoft confirmed in an official statement. The company further revealed that “inventory is now limited,” which is pretty awful for Microsoft because no successor product is standing in the line to replace Surface Pro 3 which was released just back in May 2015.

Surface Pro 4, rolled out in October 2016, is still in the manufacturing, but there has been no major upgrade to Microsoft’s lightweight 2-in-1 inspiration. Microsoft is investing its efforts in Surface Book laptops as the biggest overhaul for Windows 10.

Since the advent of iOS and Android, Microsoft Windows itself seems threatened because smartphones have clearly become more useful part of everyday life than PCs and laptops. The software company tried its luck in smartphones by purchasing Nokia back in 2014. However, Lumia series and other Windows Mobiles failed to beat the buzz about Android phones Apple phones.

Discontinuation of Surface Pro 3 only serves as a challenge to Microsoft and it must quickly slide something in its hardware slot to stay competitive in the market.
