Ba-bye 2015 and thanks for delivering us a cool array of useful tech innovations. No doubt, 2015 has been truly remarkable, with innovations that changed the way we live, explore and think. The afterglow of New Year’s Eve is still fresh, so it’s about time we take a look at the top trending technology of 2015. These are also the tech items that have the potential to invade sales year 2016.
First off, let’s walk you through our selection criteria. Top trending tech doesn’t have to be the top selling because sales are driven by various variables like price, marketing, region, etc and while our focus will be based on popularity, the sophistication of the technology and its impact worldwide. So in the manner of saying, the tech categories have to be trending themselves, furthermore, we have chosen just two products from each category, so only important tech products get a mention.
Now there is some high-tech stuff out there like AI robots and drone cameras, but not everybody has a practical use for them, so usability is also a decisive factor. With that cleared out and seat-belts fastened-up, let the scrolling begin.

Honorable mentions:

- Samsung Galaxy Note 5
- Huawei Google Nexus 6P

Apple iPhone 6s (Prices starting from $649)
If I have to pick the most suitable word for iPhone, it would be “Evergreen.” Destined to never lose its charm, iPhones have gone farther than any other mobile technology today. Apple phones, for their sophistication and security features, will always have an upper hand over other mobile technologies. Continuing this tradition, Apple’s iPhone 6s just changed everything there was about its predecessors.
We are talking about a state of the art 3D touch with peek and pop, Touch ID, 12MP pictures with Focus Pixels for improved local tone mapping, optical image stabilization and 4K videos with iMovie. With breathtaking design, everything fitted in the casing is made from the same aluminum stuff that is used in aerospace industry.
Apple iPhone 6s is powered by one of the most advanced smartphone chipsets, a custom-designed 64-bit A9 chip, which can even rival desktop computers. Backed by a performance of 70% faster CPU and 90% faster GPU, rendering the top-notch gaming and graphics software is never going to be an issue. Apple iPhone 6s is one of the fastest selling phones and it will prove its worth in 2016 as well.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (Price: Starting from $815)
Samsung’s Galaxy series has always been the biggest rival to the iPhones, not to mention, a very formidable one. It is a competition so fierce, you can’t help notice that ‘S’ and the series number (Galaxy ‘S6’ | iPhone ‘6s’) are also the same, with the exception of order and capitalization of the ‘S’ alphabet.
A true innovation is something that has never existed before and it is very true in the case of Galaxy S6 Edge when you consider its dual curved-Edge design, which arguably makes it the most cutting-Edge smartphone ever. Galaxy S6 Edge is more durable, beautiful and advanced. The bolder edge isn’t the only new feature, say hello to a wireless charging system, information stream and selfies wider up to 120°.
Samsung Galaxy 6S Edge features 3GB RAM, 5MP front and 16MP rear camera with a screen density of 3.6M pixels. Additionally, there is custom software for added functionality like fast contact access, which you can access by swiping an edge. In short, S6 Edge cannot be missed and it will travel the distance through 2016.

Top Trending Tech 2015: Tablets
When tablets first arrived they lacked connectivity and cellular features. Over time, they improved and now that phablets have arrived, some think that tablets are outdated. The truth is, the differences between tabs, phabs and tablets are becoming indistinct. However, tablets will never fall out of the vogue because there is one thing that distinguishes them from the other two, and that is its size. In fact, tablets can get as much big as they want and never change their label, while phones and phablets have to stay smart.
Honorable Mentions:
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
- Google Nexus 9
- Dell Venue 8 7000 Series
Apple iPad Air 2 (Price: Starting from $500)
With the thickness of just 6.1mm thick, the Apple iPad Air 2 is one of the slimmest tab available in stores. The iPad Air 2 is a solid tablet offer with a great touch experience, bright 9.7″ scratch-proof LED-backlit IPS LCD touchscreen, mustering 1536 x 2048 pixels (264ppi). The engineered glass has reduced reflectance to 56% to give you a great daylight experience.
Apple iPad Air 2 is Air-light at 437g, so even after hours of usage, you won’t feel a strain on your arms or wrists. The Air 2 is also very handy (cam) with an 8MP auto-focus camera that allows 1080p video recording @30fps. Moreover, you get a 1.2MP selfie, but don’t underestimate the power of the large f/2.2 aperture, because it can very well produce 720 pixels.
Don’t confuse the Air with Airless, because iPad Air 2 packs an A8X 64-bit chipset to go along with a M8 motion coprocessor + barometer and 2GB of RAM. Offered in 16, 64 and 128GB inbuilt storage, the price range may be high, but for all the good reasons. While iPads are not out of the trend, take any month of the year, Apple iPad Air 2 is really trending hot.
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (Price: Starting from $879)
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has made its mark as the most powerful and versatile tab ever. How powerful? Let’s put everything behind and consider the firepower of (up to) 16GB RAM, it’s awfully fast, most PCs won’t stand the RAM comparison.
Featuring a spacious 12.3″ display with 5 million pixels, replacing the previous 12″ of the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft has proven that it is on the road to improvement. The 8.4mm thickness has got to be a setback compared to Air 2, but look at what comes with the cost of few added millimeters.
8Megapixel camera, Fingerprint scanner, Windows 10 Pro, Palm detection, softest keys, a (40%) wider high-precision 5-point multitouch trackpad, hybrid cooling system, 6th generation Intel Core processor, and up to 1 TB storage.
Surface Pro 4 casing is hard magnesium that includes a kickstand with a full-function multipurpose hinge. PixelSense Display technology deserves a special mention, which gets the best out of its 10-point multitouch screen. Surface Pro 4 is really hard to summarize, for all that we know, it’s evolving and it’s getting better.

Honorable Mentions:

- Asus Zenbook UX303LA
- Lenovo Yoga 900
- Chromebook
Dell XPS 13 (Price: Starting from $799)
2015 Dell XPS 13 notebook already has 13 in it, perhaps Dell named it that way just to mock the buyers inquiring about screen size so the dealer could say, “it is 13 (inch), says right there in its name.” Well, with consumers getting so conscious these days, chances of that happening are very slim. Dell XPS is to Apple MacBook as Galaxy S phone is to iPhone, perhaps even better.
Gifted with an incredible ultra-smart design and feel, Dell XPS 13 has been dubbed the “world’s smallest 13-inch laptop”. Why? XPS 13 enjoys a compact metal frame measuring 304 x 200 x 15mm, now compare these dimensions with the best in the market and make up your mind. TrustedReviews has already named it the ‘Best Laptop of the Year.” So with so many talks about it, let’s find out what breeds inside it.
Dell XPS 13 weighs just 1.2kg (touchscreen version = 1.29kg), has Noble Lock slot, SD card reader and up to 1TB PCle SSD storage. The firepower of XPS 13 comes from a sixth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD Graphics 520 and 8GB of RAM, and you can also upgrade these options to core i7 processor and up to 16GB DDR3 RAM.
Dell XPS 13 also gets two 3.0 USB ports and a Thunderbolt 3 connector which capacitates its data transfer speed up to 40Gbps! Moreover, Dell XPS 13 is a proven performer in battery life, heat dispersion, build quality and graphic quality. In short, it is the best laptop for your money, and if you didn’t buy it last year, get it in 2016 and you will never feel outdated or outrun for good long time.
Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch Laptop (Price: Starting from $1099)
The 2015 MacBook Pro is one of the smartest 13-incher you can get your hands on. Experience the amazing Force Touch trackpad, longer battery life, great portability, larger RAM (4-8GB) and the mighty Intel processors (Core i5 x 2.5-3.1Ghz). All these features combined nearly make it a perfect notebook. Weighing just 2.06kg(4.5lbs), MacBook Pro is just 200g heavier than its Air factory mate and when you learn that it is just 0.95″ thick, it’s about time you lock the deal with the shopkeeper.
Longer battery life matters in a laptop, but adding on to the weight of the battery affects its portability. Innovating its way around, Apple has used low-voltage hardware that makes the most of your current battery storage. The fast 128 GB storage (up to 1TB) is also the part of the low-consumption plan.
The Force Touch trackpad is completely exclusive to the 13-inch MacBook Pro and its 12-inch sibling, which replaces and refines your regular trackpad experience by introducing four force sensors and an electromagnet. Named Force Click by Apple, this new technology measures the pressure of your fingers upon every click and
MacBook Pro 13-inch bears “LED” display with Intel-visualized 2,560 x 1,600 max resolution, which can be pitched to an external canvas using its Thunderbolt connector. No need to mention, Mac OS is a better resolution handling expert than Windows, so you get that automatically. MacBook Pro 13-inch is a user-friendly laptop it will keep its user entertain through 2016.

Top Trending Tech 2015: TV Streamers
TV Streaming devices rose to fame with the advent of smart TVs that offered extended connectivity and functionality. The race is two-faceted actually, where TV streaming devices cannot outrun the functions smart TVs offer. For example, you cannot create an Android app for an Android version that does not support some specific features.
Honorable Mentions:
- Roku 3
- Roku Streaming Stick
- Amazon Fire TV
- Amazon Fire TV Stick
- Google Nexus Player
Google Chromecast (Price: $33)
TV Streaming devices have quickly turned into the battlefield, but the competition couldn’t set the milestones Google Chromecast did with its ease of use and awesomeness. Pluggable via TV’s HDMI port, Chromecast enables live video streams from your mobile phone, tablet or PC.
Here’s the odd part: it doesn’t have a remote or a user-interface per se. Google’s little streamer will sit there like an electronic canine waiting for your other devices to tell it what to do. The best thing about Chromecast is that it not only gives you great features but also comes $10 cheaper than its closest competitor.
It has supremacy over Amazon Fire TV Stick or Roku Streaming Stick when it comes to streaming content from apps like Netflix, Sling TV, HBO Now, others don’t have this feature as of yet. In short, when you can get Blu-ray’s quality at such an affordable price, you have no reason to turn down. The original Chromecast had a few drawbacks, but over the time, Google improved it considerably and as Chromecast is broadening the range of app compatibility, it might soon enjoy the monopoly its namesake browser has.
Apple TV (Price: Starting from $149)
Apple products always end up top trending, but it isn’t with the promise of quality, hard work and delicate technology that Apple products are enjoying enormous sales. The tech titan is literally creating the trends, we can’t say anything less about Apple TV. Offering a revolutionary new standard of 1080p, unlike Chromecast, Apple TV boasts a remote control, which is one of the coolest available in the market.
Although, it still lacks native Amazon Prime Video support and Siri recognizes 50% fewer commands she does on iOS, watch OS or OSX. Additionally, Siri relies on text (voiceless commands), which pushes it a little behind than its Google contemporary. The remote however serves as the saving grace for the Apple TV, but as of right now there’s no way to connect your iPhone or iPad. So it’s easy to speculate that Apple is already working on these features, hopefully, which would happen in 2016 and it will show the improvement Apple TV’s sales-sheet.

Joby Gorillapod (Price: $30)
A tripod is a life-support for a camera without which picturesque shots are impossible. However, with the traditional tripods, you are restrained to limited camera angles, but on the other hand, you can’t let the motion blur kick in when you are ready to shoot the shot of your career. It is for times like this that Joby Gorillapod comes to the rescue.
Joby Gorillapod is a flexible tripod that can serve as a stand and a quick glue for your camera, so you can wrap it around just about anything. It can be attached to trees, wires, walls, rocks… wait, we just said anything, so let your imagination run wild. The weird-looking Joby Gorillapod can orient your DSLR or any other type of camera in any direction and any orientation.
Available in four different sizes to support the variable weight;800g-5kg, Joby Gorillapod leg joints are made from machined aluminum. So Weight of the camera isn’t going to be a problem, all you have to do is make the right selection. This is technically not a very advanced accessory, but the versatility of its usage kept the cameramen around the world spell-bound to its magic.
- Top Trending Tech 2015: Cameras
As technology is making leaps not by years, but days, the definition of a good camera is also adjusting between the premium products, quality of the lens, the number of pixels, portability and flexibility. With incredible lenses of smartphones, the definition of a good camera is not limited to DSLRs. But we could not include smartphones because they already had their say, so we took a bit from both edges and here we are.
Honorable Mentions:
- Nikon D810
- Canon 5DS R
GoPro Hero4 Black (Price: $500)
What is GoPro Hero4? It’s a high-end camera to record videos from tight corners, it’s a sports camera to shoot broadcast-quality footages, it’s a stunt-makers ultimate choice for filming action, it’s an all-in-one video camera to fulfill all your needs on a journey/adventure. Best definition: A tiny 4K camera to take anywhere, anytime!
We admit, we can’t accommodate all of its awesome features in this tiny article, that’s because it is invincible and can bear the weight all sorts of stress. You can shoot anything at 1080p and upload the clip instantly to your social media account. GoPro Hero4 is offered in three editions: Black ($500), Silver ($400), and the new Session ($400), which is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the other two. Yet, most go for the Black.
GoPro Hero4 Black rolls 4K@30fps, which is the best you can get with an adventure cam, but it shoots much faster if you choose to shoot at lower qualities, that are exactly how people create those slo-mo videos that you have already seen in people-are-awesome compilations. Hero4 supports external microphone with a high bitrate of up to 60 Mbps.
The battery is very convenient to remove and if you are set for an all-day shoot, you can pack multiple of those to keep filming without recharging breaks. But those extra batteries come with an extra price. In standard package, you get a standard housing, skeleton backdoor (for access to the camera), rechargeable battery, quick-release buckles, three-way pivot arm, Mini USB cable and adhesive mounts of type curved and flat. That’s nearly everything you need, so if you missed it in 2015, get GoPro Hero4 Black in 2016.

2015 Tesla Model S sports sedan (Price: $71,100)
Tesla Model S sports sedan is the breakthrough all-electric car that has given other automakers a good run for the money. Since Tesla made the history with its very practical Model S sedan, car enthusiast couldn’t wait for the company to release the sporty to the dealers, even the jealous competition admired its elegant features.
Tesla Model S sports sedan boasts an attractive design, a remarkable interior, and electrifying performance. Who would expect all-wheel drive from an electric core? But Tesla did it and showed others that you can zoom from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds without gasoline engines, additionally, the dual motor powertrain functions in controlled torque management to give the car ‘unparalleled’ traction control.
Tesla Model S sports sedan owns a state of the art AutoPilot system with AutoSteer, so smart that people have used it in heavy traffic and never got disappointed, it’s almost autonomous. The auto park also includes garage parking, meaning it will open your garage doors, park itself in and shut the garage door behind. Available in 3 editions (P85D, 85D, 70D), Tesla Model S can produce up to the combined horsepower of 762hp, which is really unbelievable. Tesla Model S sports sedan is genuinely an amazing innovation and it is here to stay.
2015 Toyota Prius (Price: Starting from $25,000)
Like Tesla Model S, when Prius first arrived in the automotive industry, it brought the hybrid revolution that was very much needed. Its revolutionary electric motor technology gave mileage a huge boost and became the first true hybrid car, but apart from the comfort level, design and economy-friendly range made it one of the best family cars ever.
So 2015 Toyota Prius hatchback is an all-out family car for the best value of money and unlike Tesla, pioneer Toyota car lacks any Insane Mode for quick acceleration, thus, it may not be very appealing to race thirsty folks. The Japanese automaker is known for is careful stance when it comes to modifying car design or introducing new technology, but considering the monocoque and aerodynamic profile of the 2015 edition, looks like Toyota had a brief adrenaline rush.
2015 Toyota Prius boasts a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, which along with its electric motors produces 121hp, that drives the car to a top speed of 115 mph. The shift from 0-60mph in 10 seconds might not be very impressive, but if you are in for fuel economy, only a few nominal cars can match its mpg ratings (58 mpg city and 53 mpg highway). An eco-friendly model has also been introduced for environment conservationists. We admire Toyota because Toyota Prius is a great accomplishment.

Top Trending Tech 2015: Virtual Reality
For those who have used Google Cardboards and are disappointed in VR technology, don’t be mistaken. Google Cardboard is a fine way to experience how virtual reality feels, but it is not way near close when we talk about interactivity. So Google Cardboard is just a viewer, that’s all. Unless the Big G takes a swing at VR tech and innovates a way to use phones with remote controls to directly operate games in Android (or iPhone may be).
Microsoft HoloLens is a worthy contestant, but remember that HoloLens is not Virtual, it’s Augmented. Apart from our selection (unfortunately, there was no worthy contender to reach the markets in 2015, so, as an exception to the rest of the categories, we have only one selection). There are two more formidable champions which deserve mention; Sony’s Project Morpheus / Sony PlayStation VR and HTC Vive, which are expected to hit the markets in 2016. Now for the likes of Google Cardboard, you might want to check out these VR headsets as well.
- FOVE VR
- Avegant Glyph
- Razer OSVR
- Freefly VR headset
- Samsung Gear VR (Innovation Edition)
Oculus Rift (Price: Pre-orders at $599)
Oculus Shop has officially made the virtual reality set available at a price-tag of $599, however, the stock is limited and orders per customer are also limited to one. The Oculus Rift VR comes with a headset, mic, sensor, Xbox One Controller and the new Oculus Remote. These accessories are enough to give you a perfect virtual reality experience, explore interactive 360-degree videos and play VR games.
Games like Lucky’s Tale and the space-brawler EVE: Valkyrie comes pre-installed. Of course, you can get more on Oculus Store, just browse the contents and buy what you like. As the technology is new, so the Oculus Store may not be as populated as Play Store or Apple Store, but it’s only matter of time before VR Stores beats any online apps or games portal.
If you want to use Oculus Rift with your PC (which is the most common use for now), you would need the computer specification equal to or greater than the following:
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
- Processor: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
- Memory: 8GB+ RAM
- Output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
- Input: 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
- Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
- Oculus Rift Preview
The different components of the Oculus Rift are for different purposes. For example, the remote specifically designed to enhance your VR experience that is not related to the gaming environment. Likewise, the Xbox controller works just the opposite: to give you the best gaming experience possible, in a world where the action is live and you are the center of it.
It is worth mentioning that just a couple of years ago, the idea of virtual reality was, well, just an idea. When initial releases of Oculus were being featured on electronic shows, the reviews came negative because it worked terribly slow. However, in 2015, the technology got a massive boost and specification of Oculus Rift improve satisfactorily.
Oculus will always be known as one of the pioneer companies to tackle virtual reality and since it has been acquired by the Facebook, it is never going to fall out of the trends, once fully out.

Top Trending Tech 2015: Mobile Games
Considering downloads, revenues, and craze on the internet, mobile games cannot be over-sighted because they are selling like a pie. So we will make game introductions brief, but mobiles games must get some credit.
Honorable Mentions:
- Fallout Shelter

- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Dead Trigger 2
Minecraft: Pocket Edition (Price: $2.99)
The idea behind Minecraft is simple: An adventure world. The Pocket Edition may be limited, but it also means lesser worries and you can enjoy more game time. When you first install Minecraft: Pocket Edition and play it, you are instantly thrown in a randomly generated world with random tasks. Yet, it hits the top spot on the top paid games both on Play Store and App Store.
The virtually world is essentially just made up of small blocks… cubes of dirt, stone, sand and other materials that make up our world. So it may not be really graphic-high, but it is still cute. The devs had to keep it limited because of the graphic limitations of smartphones. Minecraft offers you a huge window of creativity and an unparalleled level of freedom to experiment.
The game is not without its rewarding experiences and fear of being looted by horrible creatures of the night. You progress based on challenges, you build more, re-design your world the way you want and this is what really makes this game addictive. There is so much about this game; you really must play it to get the addition.
