The rate at which we use technology in education is increasing; both teachers and students are finding creative ways of using technology in education. Technology has changed the way students and teachers collaborate in classroom and outside of the classroom. New technology for education is emerging, so today i have decided to compile some of the top 8 new emerging educational technologies every teacher and student can use to improve their academic life.
- 1. Knowledge Transmission:
Knowledge transmission has played a great part in changing our educational environment. Some of the educational technologies developed by Knowledge Transmission include; (1) Social Learning Platform which aims to deliver the best social learning experience to both students and teachers. Students can easily access this web based social learning platform on all PCs, laptops, smart phones and tablets with internet connection. This social learning platform has a scoring and tracking feature which can enable teachers track the performance of their students. Through a Gamification system, students will earn points and rewards for completing specific tasks and this boost student’s interest to learn more. (2) Kigo Apps can be used to provide exam preparation support to all students.

This is a people-focused search engine which was designed to index academic works. So why use scholr.ly instead of Google. The difference is that Google is powered by robots which crawl web servers and index whatever they find in an organized manner, yet scholr.ly is basically a human edited search engine specializing in indexing full-text works, bibliographic data and academic works to help researchers find great content.
I did a simple query of ‘‘Use of Technology” on Scholr.ly, the results are presented in an amazing manner, on the left they feature ”Publications” on that keyword, then on the Right they feature ”Authors” of those publications, when you click on the content published , you will have an option of downloading that content in PDF. It is an amazing technology for making research.

CANVAS technology was designed to benefit both students and teachers. Teachers can teach a course on CANVAS for free, you can simply create a virtual classroom and start teaching your students from the comfort of your home, students can join as many virtual classrooms on CANVAS, take as many courses as they want. The platform comes with a speed grader, an online testing manager and many educational tools which can help teachers collaborate effectively with their students.

- 4. Skitch – by EVERNOTE:
Evernote technology is cool when it comes to bookmarking content, as a teacher or student; you will also find that the SKITCH technology created by Evernote will some how help you in your classroom. You can create sketches on just about any subject or topic; these sketches can be made on desktop or mobile phone using the Skitch mobile App. Nothing replaces visual learning, so as a teacher you can use this Skitch technology on an interactive smart whiteboard to help your students learn easily. As a teacher, you can easily draw attention and focus on what’s important using the annotation and markup tools in Skitch, use less words to explain a topic by use of shapes, arrows and quick sketches.

Both students and teachers will find this Piazza technology relevant. Teachers can easily manage class (Q&A) question and answers using this platform. Teachers can create virtual classroom and students can join these classroom and collaborate with teachers and other students from different schools. Teachers who have always been asking on how they can integrate technology with education, this is a simple technology designed to meet that need. You can create as many virtual classes as you want, also students can search and join as many classes as they want. This helps students get access to relevant educational material, and they can also use the community forum of that class to ask educational questions which can be answered by a teacher or another student.

If you think of reinventing education, then Udacity has just done that. You can easily invent your future through free interactive college classes in three simple steps. (1) You Learn, (2) You Think, (3) You Do . Basically Udacity will offer you affordable and engaging classes which you can take anytime from anywhere. As a student, all you have to do is sign up for a free account and start taking classes, and then you can use advanced tracking tools to monitor your progress and also manage your courses via the ”My Courses” section. So what is the benefit of using Udacity as a student? When you complete the course, you will be in position to get a certificate of completion which comes with new skills and bragging rights.
- 7. MENDELEY:
You can use Medeley as a reference manager which can help you organize your research work, and it also works as an academic social network which can help you collaborate with fellow students and educators online. Via the MENDELEY social platform, you can easily discover latest research via your account feeds. Mendeley is basically a students technology which can help them manage research work, organize it , share it with friends and also discover more academic material submitted by friends and fellow students.

Teachers with issues of integrating technology with education try out Moodle, it is a simple technology which works as a Course Management System, and many teachers are using Moodle to create effective online learning sites.
