Google Chrysler partnership is already looking good with Chrysler Pacifica now added to the ambition of driverless cars both tech titans have vowed to bring into reality. After months of unconfirmed reports that both companies could collaborate on the self-driving vehicles, official words finally comes out that Fiat Chrysler’s new minivan is the right candidate.
On May 3, Tuesday, Google and Fiat Chrysler announced that the all the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is going to be the true face of their driverless car, We all know that Google’s self-driving car has so far shown the most promising results compared to automakers themselves. The company has been working on the project for over seven years, long before Alphabet came into being.
Automakers like Mercedes, Ford, Audi and many other have been working on this future technology. But the tables were turned when Google, Chrysler shook on the deal. As a part of this venture, the internet company will integrate its autonomous car technology into the already hi-tech Chrysler Pacifica minivan, and engineers from both entities will join their heads to make it error-proof on the real roads.
Before Chrysler Pacifica came into the picture, Google had been using Toyota Prius and Lexus RX SUV as experimental driverless cars for various road tests. Until now, Google’s self-driving project was recognized by its prototype car shown in the picture below, but now Chrysler Pacifica is expected to become the true face of this project.
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica SUV became the best candidate for Google Chrysler partnership efforts because it has already been bestowed with amazing luxury and safety features.
What does Google Chrysler partnership really means?
Fiat Chrysler had previously hinted that it was looking for a tech company to help it with its self-driving cars, mentioning likes of Google and Apple to get in touch with them. While Apple opted out to kickstart its own venture, Google finally signed up on Chrysler Pacifica minivan after it couldn’t make up its mind about partnering with Ford.
As the technology is advancing, it is dominating its way through the roads and people finally yielded to the fact that AI-driven vehicles will someday take the control of the wheels. This means all the automakers must look forward to this amazing technology because if Chrysler Pacifica, for instance, became a successful road hit soon enough, who will buy manual cars from the other car makers?
While automakers can take it under their wing to start from scratch, as they have been, joining hands with a tech company, who know software and AI better, would rapidly boost their pace. In Google Chrysler’s case, the former was looking for a car manufacturer to make automotive shells for its driverless technology and the later was looking for an AI core to drive its hi-tech vehicles. So their collaboration perfectly makes sense.
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minus-human-driver version is not coming to the auto-dealers anytime soon. During the initial phases, the car maker will make 100 experimental minivans for Google, which will be tested on in the heavy traffic on the roads of Merced, Kirkland, Washington and Phoenix. But honestly, we still don’t know how long before they will start selling it.
The latest Chrysler Pacifica is going to be more practical in terms of a road model that is actually marketable. Technology analysts are hopeful that Google Chrysler partnership is going to soar and we might see the true face of driverless cars we had been looking for years. On the other hand, there are fears as well that the world is not ready to let machines take over wheels, just yet.
