On September 1st, SpaceX lost its Falcon 9 rocket while on the CRS-8 mission, which also destroyed a Facebook satellite. Now Spacecom is demanding a sum of $50 million from SpaceX or a free launch into space to compensate for its wasted AMOS-6 satellite.
SpaceX rocket explosion was a bad news not just for SpaceX, Elon Musk, Facebook, and Spacecom, but also the aerospace industry on the whole. Where Facebook’s ambitions to give internet access to sub-Saharans regions vanished in thin air, Spacecom is facing a financial crisis and its golden opportunity to become a part of a larger conglomerate that was reportedly buying it before the incident.

Spacecom has already provided a variety of satellites to multitudes customers, but Facebook was the biggest score yet. Unfortunately, the last CRS mission failed to complete the goal, pushing the company to survival mode. As a result, it has asked SpaceX to pay $50 million or give the company a free space trip, both options are open. Spacecom might further collect upwards of $205 million from Israel Aircraft Industries.
Beijing Xinwei Technology Group was looking at acquiring Spacecom, but as a part of the deal, the satellite company was required to successfully launch the AMOS-6 into space, which didn’t happen. There has been no response from Xinwei group or SpaceX.
