When the drones arrived at the targeted home, they lowered without touching the ground so the owners could receive the food parcel. After the package delivery, both drones flew back to their home destination using GPS navigation. The anonymous customer had signed up for 7-Eleven’s pilot program which made him eligible for the first ever drone delivery service.
7-Eleven and many retailers are working through a possible solution that will make drone deliveries legit and efficient, but a proper infrastructure has yet to be developed. The test run was limited to one mile radius, but as the drone technology will advance, more drones will be able to fly more distance to deliver food.
