Bollinger Promises a New Manly All-Electric Truck

In case you are an admirer of SUVs and pickup trucks, but also want to jump on the bandwagon that is the electric vehicle revolution, this is great news for you.

Bollinger Motors have just announced their first vehicle, the B1, which is supposed to be the world’s first all-electric, all-wheel drive sport utility truck. With it, the independent EV startup company from New York is adding a little masculine touch to the EV scene.

The vehicle in question could be described as a cross between a Jeep and an OG Hummer, and with a minimalistic interior style and convertible setup, it is suitable for any job or off-road joyride imaginable because of the removable doors and roof.

While the exterior and interior design of the car could be something that will catch the eye of the most people, the firm behind the vehicle claims that the battery is the greatest feature of the EV. The company states the B1’s large 100 kWh battery will have the potential for a 200-mile range and that a smaller 60 kWh battery could allow future B1 owners 120 miles per charge, which is a lot for a vehicle of such a design.

Some of the other B1’s promised features include 360 horsepower and 472 lb-foot of torque, which will push its 0 to 60 acceleration time to an impressive 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 127 mph, as well as a 6,100-pound payload capacity for heavy-duty hauling jobs. It’s also equipped with twin 110 volt power outlets for remote charging on the job.

With all of these promises being made, the company is still holding something in from the public, like their production partners and the price. Being a small company, they don’t have the means to manufacture the vehicle on a large scale, so they must team up with an established third-party partner with the suitable facilities.

Once the manufacturer issue is ironed out, the company will be able to set a price, since they’re trying to find a number that is appropriate for a “nicely equipped sport utility vehicle” as they said in the press release. Pre-orders will cost $1,000 per reservation and are supposed to be happening from next year on.

The company’s plan is to begin delivering B1s to customers within 19 months of signing.

This vehicle has been announced by Bollinger just the night before Tesla was expected to send its first Model 3 sedans to see a light of day in a live stream event, but it seems that the move wasn’t intentional and wasn’t aimed at Elon Musk. The firm says that they don’t see Tesla as competition, instead just as another company that makes progress in the world of EVs.

Still, the company has a lot of work to do until it can provide the drivers with the vehicle with all the promised features, so it will take some time before B1 gets to be parked next to Tesla’s vehicles. But if they do manage to deliver everything they promised, it will provide a bright future for a whole new segment of electric vehicles.
